Abstract


The Predictor Role of Adult Attachment Types and Parental Conflict on Alexithymia and the Mediator Effect of Parental Infidelity
Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze the predictor role of attachment styles and parental conflict on alexithymia levels of adults and to evaluate the regulatory effect of parental infidelity. Method: The sample of this analysis consists of 374 participants, 300 females and 74 males. The data was gathered online. Children’s Perception of Interparental Conflict Scale, Inventory of Experiences in Close Relationships-II and Toronto Alexithymia Scale were used in this cross-sectional study. SPSS was used for statistical analysis. Findings: The analysis demonstrated that the male participants score higher than the female participants in the Difficulty in Expressing Feelings lower dimension of the Toronto Alexithymia Scale. Infidelity was found to be a positive predictor of Alexithymia levels of participants. In addition, avoidant and anxious attachment levels of participants were found to be a positive predictor of Alexithymia. Conclusion: Having more knowledge about alexithymia and its consequences would provide clinicians with better treatment strategies.
