Abstract


Validity and Reliability Analysis of Developmental Primary School Readiness Scale
This study aims to analyze the validity and reliability of the Developmental Primary School Readiness Scale (DPSRS) that will be used to determine the primary school readiness of 44-69 –month- old children. The DPSRS was developed based on HighScope’s Key Developmental Indicators and literature related to cultural and educational differences. The participants of the study consisted of 428 preschoolers who attended a preschool education institution in Turkey. Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor analyzes were conducted to examine the construct validity of the DPS. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, 59 items in the scale were grouped under 8 factors. This 8-factor structure of the scale explained 81.03% of the total variance. It was also confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. The internal consistency coefficient of the DPSRS was .96 and the split-half reliability coefficient was .95. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that Developmental Primary School Readiness Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool that will be able to use to determine primary school readiness of 44-69 –month- old children.
