Abstract
Erciş Tekler Neighborhood Cemetery Graved Stones of Karakoyunlu Period
The tribes such as Barani or Baranlu who lived in Turkestan and migrated to Anatolia as a result of Mongol invasions came together under the leadership of Bayram Hodja and established Karakoyunlu State in the second half of the 14th century. For the Karakoyunlu State who took place on the stage of history for more than a century and played an important role in the geography to remain as Turkish homeland, Erciş had great importance. Karakoyunlu State gave importance to the reconstruction and development of Erciş by intensifying their political activities here and making it their first Capital city. Today, the artifacts, which are located in many parts of the district and which are facing extinction, shed light on the history of the period, while on the other hand, the point where the nations came in their artistic level, also provide important information about the interaction and development stages of cultural heritage. Historical cemeteries and tombstones constitute an important branch of the cultural assets of the Karakoyunlu period in and around Erciş. One of these cemeteries is Tekler neighborhood Cemetery, where gravestones with unique forms and ornaments reflect the tombstone traditions of the Karakoyunlu period.
