Contribution of Environmental Art Practices to Sustainability and Biomimicry
Production has increased to meet the consumption demands of the rising population and natural resources have started to be consumed in an unconscious and unplanned manner. In this regard, “biomimicry”, a design concept that has a long history but is gaining importance again, has started to be used. The word Greek is a combination of the words "bios (life)" and "mimikos (imitation)" and means to consciously imitate nature in terms of functioning, form and material and is a frequently used resource for sustainability today. “Sustainability”, ıt is also expressed as meeting today's needs without risking the needs of future generations. Art is also involved in the providing of a sustainable environment. In the second half of the 20th century, land art, which is one of the environmental art practices that emerged in America and the UK, and then ecological art, is the art practices that contain the works of artists who want to draw attention to the damages caused by industrialization and make their voices heard in this regard. The role of art for a sustainable life and what kind of benefits and solutions it can offer biomimical are discussed.
