The Opinions of School Administrators and Counselors about the Guidance Activities in Schools: The Case of Van
The aim of this study is investigating the opinions of school administrators and counselors about the guidance activities in schools. In this study, “the Perception Scale Related to the Physiological Counselor” has been employed, which was developed by Korkmaz and Tanhan (2010) consists of 0.967 KMO value and (?2=5158.584; p?.000) with 28 questions asked. The population of the study consists of 2750 teachers and administrators serving for 79 elementary and 80 secondary schools in the municipal boundaries of Van in the academic year of 2014-2015. The sample of the study consists of 56 admins and 202 teachers selected from 16 elementary and middle schools randomly. SPSS statistical software was used for data analysis. As a result of the study, it is presented that the work related to educational guidance focuses mostly on the information seminars that aim to improve academic achievement of the students and more importance is given to the test applications rather than activities related to personal-social guidance. In addition, it is concluded that the schools give more weight to the activities towards promotion of the schools in the vocational guidance area, cooperate on the implementation of the guidance programs regarding the studies carried out by the school administration and organize some seminars to inform the parents in various topics.
