Abstract
Political and Literal Position of Ziya Pasha between Eastern and Western Civilizations
On the pages of history, the East and the West have been considered as the two fronts. This perception has developed in minds with the concept of civilization. Accordingly, a search for civilization has been continuing between the East and the West. Along with the factors such as modernization and industrialization in particular, the West has become a cultural and political pressure phenomenon since the beginning of the nineteenth century. This situation has led to the references of ‘modern’ for the West and ‘classical’ or ‘traditional’ for the East in the perspective of society. Evolving within a social process, all these developments have urged the literature to be closely involved. With all these perceptions, Ziya Pasha’s position between east and west, his sense of politics, literal works and satirical style are explained with respect to his literal and political identity. In this article, the satirical and analytical discourse of Ziya Pasha within the scope of his poems will be discussed.
