Abstract


The Opinions of Turkish Teachers and Inspectors Regarding the Language Skills of Secondary School Students
This study has been prepared to identify the level in the field of language skills of secondary school students, according to the opinions of secondary school teachers and primary education inspectors, to describe what kinds of problems are being experienced related to the field of language skills of secondary school students and to propose a solution for solving these problems. The study was carried out in the central districts of Ardahan, Ağrı and Erzurum in the second semester of the 2000-2001 academic year. In the study, 34 primary education inspectors working in the national education directorates of the related provinces and 100 Turkish teachers working in the secondary schools of these three provinces were selected with the random method as the sample. The survey form was used as data collection tool. The levels of students in the field of listening, reading, speaking and writing were determined through the survey questions that were asked to the subjects. Also, the opinions of the subjects were taken about what kind of problems are being experienced related to the field of language skills in secondary schools. The findings obtained from the study were analyzed using frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, alpha, standard deviation, correlation and squared statistical methods. According to the results of the study, the level of middle school students' achievement of the goals in the fields of "listening, reading and speaking", "narration" and "writing" is moderate. The researcher, taking the opinions of the subjects into account, makes suggestions for eliminating the negativities experienced in teaching Turkish.
