Abstract


A Study on Women’s Internet Addiction: Istanbul Case
With the advancement in information and communication technologies, the internet access has reached significant levels. Despite the fact that internet access in daily life offers significant advantages and affects the life quality in the form of time savings and the minimization of transaction costs, internet addiction has serious side effects on the society. For this reason the authorities in almost every country have tried to develop different strategies. To develop more effective and successful strategies, the parameters affecting the internet usage need to be supported with field studies. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between internet addiction and the demographic features of women. Under the demographic features, factors such as age, education, occupation, marital status and the number of children have been considered. Field study has been used in this study. Within the scope of this study, a quantitative method, the survey method has been preferred. In the study, 16 high socio-economic level districts of Istanbul with high internet access have been selected for the study. One of the most striking results of the analyzed field data is that internet access of the young women aged 15-19 is higher than expected due to reasons such as social media, education and occupation. And also, the women over age 50 have higher access than expected
