Proficiency of The Parents to Choose Child Literature Products
The aim of the study is to identify the proficiency of the parents to choose child literature products for their 60-72-month-old children attending a preschool institution. An explanatory sequential design which is a mixed method in which both qualitative and quantitative research method are used together is utilized in this study. Quantitative data was collected using “Views about qualified child literature products survey” and qualitative data was collected using a semi-structured interview form. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis method. The universe of the study consists of 60 and 72 months old children’s parents in Aydın city center and district, while the study group consisted of 142 parents. The survey was administered to 142 parents and 60 parents from this group were interviewed using semi-structured form. Most of the parent’s stated that they feel incompetent to choose child literature products and 41% of them let their children choose the product. When the child literature product that parents are familiar with and prefer to buy for their children are examined, it is seen that most of them are classical child tales.
